Frequently Asked Questions
- Where does the data come from?
- All sumo data is sourced from the Sumo API (sumo-api.com), which provides tournament results, rankings, match schedules, and wrestler profiles from professional sumo.
- Does the app work offline?
- Partially. Banzuke caches data from your last session in memory. If you lose connectivity, previously loaded screens will continue to display cached data with a subtle "Showing cached data" indicator. However, navigating to new screens that haven't been loaded yet will require a connection.
- What is spoiler-free mode?
- On the Torikumi (daily matches) tab, results are hidden by default so you can watch bouts at your own pace without spoilers. Tap any match to reveal its result, or use the eye icon to show/hide all results at once.
- How does the Matchup Simulation work?
- Banzuke analyzes career statistics, head-to-head records, and common opponents to generate a predicted outcome between two wrestlers. On devices that support Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro and later), the narrative is enhanced with on-device AI. All processing happens on your device.
- What does the star/favorites feature do?
- Tap the star icon next to any wrestler to add them to your favorites. Favorited wrestlers appear with a gold star across all tabs, and you can filter the Torikumi and Rikishi tabs to show only your favorites.
- Can I switch between English and Japanese?
- Yes. Banzuke supports both English and Japanese for all UI text. You can switch languages within the app.
- Which tournaments are available?
- Banzuke provides data for the last 30 tournaments. Use the dropdown menu on the Basho tab to browse past tournaments. All six divisions are covered, from Makuuchi down to Jonokuchi.
- Why is some data missing for a tournament?
- Data availability depends on the Sumo API. Very recent or in-progress tournaments may have incomplete data until results are finalized. Try refreshing with the refresh button in the toolbar.
